Compared with two-stroke nondirect injection gasoline engines, it also avoidssmall efficiency losses because unburned fueldoes not exist at valve overlap, so there is nofuel directly entering the exhaust from theintake/injection. The thermal efficiency of low-speed diesel engines (used in applicationswhere the total weight of ships and otherengines is relatively unimportant) can exceed50%.
